ABOUT THE GAME

OVERCLOCKED is a high-speed, momentum-based 3D runner where staying in control is just as dangerous as losing it. Navigate a procedural void, hit overclock boosters to shatter speed limits and survive the frictionless chaos. Will you stabilize or will you crash into the void?

🧩 THEME INTEGRATION 

OVERCLOCKED takes the official theme of "Losing Control" and builds it directly into the physics engine. In this game, speed comes at the direct cost of grip. Every time the player hits a booster, their velocity multiplies while their friction exponentially drops, forcing them into a literal state of sliding out of control. Survival isn't just about dodging the red hazards. It's a constant, high-stakes battle to wrestle back control of your momentum before you slip into the abyss. Furthermore, the optional Chaos Orb pickups actively strip control away from the player by violently inverting their steering  or instantly dropping their friction to zero, ensuring that the faster you go, the less control you truly have.

🎮 CONTROLS & INSTRUCTIONS 

  • Mouse / Trackpad: Look around / Steer the camera
  • W A S D / Arrow Keys : Move
  • Spacebar: Jump
  • ESC / P: Open Pause Menu

⚙️ MECHANICS

  • Boosters: Hitting these increases your top speed but lowers your grip (friction). 
  • Red Hazards: Avoid at all costs. Hitting them or falling into the void will reset your run.
  • Ramps: From time to time, ramps will appear as you progress. Going up those ramps at Mach 3 will send you flying!
  • Jumping off Ramps: Hitting 'Jump' right at the edge of a ramp will send you into orbit!

🏆 COMPLETED CHALLENGES 

Challenge 1: Home-Cooked A Cappella ("Scuffed SFX" Mode)

In the settings menu, players can toggle Scuffed SFX to  replace a few of the game's  sound effects with custom, homemade voice acting (by yours truly). Everything from the continuous humming of the engine, the aggressive boosters, the sudden stops, the jumping and the tragic death sounds were recorded using only human vocal cords.

Challenge 2: Chaos Buddy (The "Chaos Orb")

Instead of a traditional pet, I implemented the Chaos Orbs. A Chaos Orb is a mysterious, glowing pickup scattered throughout the void that technically helps you... sometimes. Grabbing an orb dynamically interferes with gameplay by instantly altering your physics:

  • 🟢 Friction Stabilized: Instantly restores your grip to save you from sliding out of control. 
  • 🟢Jump Velocity Increased: Doubles your jump velocity to let you clear massive gaps.
  • 🔴Minimum Friction Set: Drops your friction to an absolute minimum, turning the track into pure ice.
  • 🔴 Left and Right Inverted: Completely inverts your left and right steering for 3 seconds.
